EXPECTATIONS AND EXPERIENCES

In our childhood like many other children in our country we,the two brothers,had the affection to the puppies.We could spend our time much more freely in our childhood than our juniors .In our rural area, the season WINTER would stand for eternal joys with bullock carts,paddy in the yards,hubbubs,the picnic,foods,fairs,kites and above all the puppies.Hence,our winter was wounderful without examinations and traditional readings.Our parents could also become little lenient to us in winter.But my stress remains on the puppies.
My brother took a sweet red and white coloured puppy from our neighbouring hamlet.We were so elated with that puppy by calling it Tommy.But one day,it became ill and showed reluctance to foods.My elder brother felt sad.He tried many ways to make it fit,but failed.Then came the climax.
Next day,my brother took the puppy under his wrapper to our village primary hospital as we live closer to the hospital.The then doctor dwelt in the hospital quarters and he called my elder brother "master" as my grandfather and father were both school teachers.It was my elder's firm belief that the human physician would prescribe proper medicine to the puppy to make it cure.As soon as my brother entered into the chamber,the doctor said-
'What happened master?'
My brother just took the wrapper up and showed the cutie!The doctor became furious with his fertile love to my elder brother and shouted-
'Is it a dog's hospital?'
My brother just started to move when the doctor called him and prescribed medicines for the puppy to be cured.Then ,in our hospital we had full time doctor,nurses and staffs dwelling in the campus quarters in a beautiful atmosphere.But the days are gone with the governments.But our expectations are little different.We wanted the hospital to be developed to a rural hospital.But alas!This is the situation of our country. But the people donated the land for the betterment of the country.Do we really pay respect to them?
In this situation the pillars of the state-HEALTH and EDUCATION,herald its importance.
Once,I was returning from kolkata to my home.I was 20 years old then.It was a summer afternoon and the compartment was almost empty.I felt thirsty.I had no water bottle then.So I bought a plastic bottle from the vendor.When the vendor vanished ,a simple looking co-passenger asked my whereabouts and my education.He shared with me few words which even now echo in my ear--
'We could not even deliver fresh water to the people of our country after 50 years of Independence.'
He was then posted in Srilanka as the representative of UNESCO.So,he knew the Srilankan attitude towards their citizens.He told me also about the Srilankan progress in health and hygiene.I felt his words when my son was affected in dengue four years ago.I went through the medical journals,treatment protocal of dengue during this time through internet.I found that dengue is very common in Srilanka and they handle it in a masterly way in their treatment protocal.They have succeeded in preventing dengue.In this pandemic(COVID-19),Iwas eager to know Srilankan position.Here also Srilanka is successfully trackling this pandemic.The number of affected people are limited and death toll is almost nil.It is only possible for their uniformal health protocal for all(The Anandabazar Patrika,24/08/20,Dr.A.Chakrabarty).
Srilanka can solve their problems.But we are creeping.The reason lies in politics and people's attitude.The politicians have become the businessmen and they have easily found their profits in health and education.So,the two most impotant things are going to the dogs.
Howmany private hospitals and schools were there in our country before 40 or 50 years ago.But people had then a better world.Has the quality risen up?People were then treated in govt. hospitals.We expected the upliftment of our primary hospital to rural hospital and rural to better next.But the THRONE is above every thing else.
